The F&B industry is always one of the important economic sectors with great potential for development in Vietnam. Currently, Vietnam has signed free trade agreements, and this gives enterprises in the F&B manufacturing and processing industry many advantages for development. Domestic enterprises have quickly seized the opportunity and have focused on heavy investment in state-of-the-art equipment and technologies to improve production capacity, product quality, raise brand awareness and promote products to participate deeper in the world’s F&B supply chains.
Especially for Ho Chi Minh City, the F&B processing industry is one of four key industries prioritized for development of the city, accounting for 13.78% of the production value of the whole industry, contributing 13.69% to the added value of the whole industry. The industrial production index of the F&B processing industry in the period 2015-2019 grew by an average of 7.04% per year. The city’s F&B processing industry has gradually shifted to in-depth development, many quality products and reputable brands have dominated the domestic market, replacing imported goods and have been exported to many countries all over the world.
However, under the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the city’s F&B processing industry has faced many difficulties and challenges from the disruption of the supply of raw materials, the disruption of the distribution system, logistics and human resources have been seriously affected. Therefore, in order for the city’s F&B processing industry to continue to develop and maintain its role as a key manufacturing industry, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has issued a Program to support the development of enterprises and products of Ho Chi Minh City’s F&B processing industry in the period 2020-2030, which is considered as one of the breakthrough programs for the city to focus on implementing support policies, mobilizing resources for development investment. Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has simultaneously implemented many solutions in order to help the city’s enterprises in the F&B industry overcome difficulties, restore production and business and return to positive growth with the growth rate of 7% in the first 6 months of 2022. According to an assessment report released in early August 2022 by the world’s leading market research organization Mordor Intelligence Inc, Vietnam’s F&B industry will achieve a compound annual growth rate of up to 8.65% in the period 2021-2026, this is a positive forecast for the development of the F&B industry under the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the price of input materials is increasing.
